Repsol SA said Thursday that profit more than doubled in the first quarter as oil and gas prices surged following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Spanish energy company made an adjusted net profit of 1.06 billion euros ($1.12 billion), rising from EUR471 million a year earlier. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased to EUR3.38 billion from EUR1.84 billion in the previous-year period, while revenue surged to EUR18.22 billion.
The improved financial performance came despite lower output, with total production reaching an average of 558,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day, down 13% on year, Repsol said. "The rise in hydrocarbon prices, reaching highs not seen since 2008, had an impact on the company's earnings," Repsol said.
The gas realization price more than doubled on year, while that of crude oil rose 70%, Repsol said.
