Technip and partners to develop floating CCS hub in Australia
Technip Energies, carbon capture and storage (CCS) developer DeepC Store (dCS), and Mitsui OSK Lines have partnered to develop the CO? floating storage and injection (FSI) hub facility for the proposed CStore1 project offshore Australia.
The three firms have signed a letter of intent (LOI) covering the engineering, procurement and construction, and operation of the CO? FSI hub facility.
Said to be the first large-scale, offshore, multi-user hub, the dCS’ CStore1 Project will have a CO? injection capacity between 1.5Mtpa and 7.5Mtpa.
DeepC Store chairman Jack Sato said: “The FSI Hub is a key facility within the overall CStore1 project for unlocking a range of remote offshore CO? injection sites. The LOI with MOL and T.EN ensures technical confidence to develop CStore1 as the first offshore floating CCS hub project in Asia Pacific region.”
Technip Energies will be responsible for exclusively providing front-end engineering and design (FEED) and EPC services for the FSI Hub while Mitsui will provide operation and maintenance services for the FSI Hub.
Technip Energies’ wholly-owned subsidiary Genesis will also provide engineering for the subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) for the FSI facility.
Technip Energies Australia country manager Paul Browne said: “Working with our development partners DeepC Store and MOL , and advisory subsidiary Genesis, we look forward to creating a cost-effective and sustainable option for the receiving and handling of carbon in the region.”
Technip said the CStore1 Project will support the decarbonisation goals set by industries and communities while helping them in transitioning to a sustainable future.
The project involves capturing and liquefying the CO? captured from industrial sources in Australia, and potentially also within the wider Asia-Pacific region.
The liquefied CO? is then shipped to CStore1’s FSI Hub, located in offshore Northern/Western Australia, where it will be offloaded and stored temporarily prior to injection.
The stored CO? is then injected in a permanent subsurface geological formation located near the FSI Hub.
